This course is an introduction to the use of this powerful graphics package in non linear post production. It is designed for the broadcast industry and is therefore delivered within that context.

On completion of this course you should have the confidence to develop your Photoshop skills within the workflow of a Non Linear environment focussing on its creative potential and integration. You will be able to:

  • Understand the difference between Computer and TV pixels
  • Use the Crop tool to generate TV size images for use within a NLE 
  • Modify the 'look' of an image using the 'Image' menu 
  • Create and modify 'Selections' using various Photoshop tools 
  • Create 'Alpha channels' (Key signals) 
  • Work with 'Layers' and 'History' for a smother workflow 
  • Use the 'Text' tool to produce broadcast CG's
  • Understand the Import/Export workflow between the NLE and Photoshop
  • Understand how to prepare still images for use in an NLE

who it's for:

The Adobe Photoshop Course in Post Production is designed for those working with a Non Linear System and wishing to integrate the work flow with other Windows products such as Photoshop. A knowledge of Broadcast TV & Non-linear editing systems is preferred as requirements.

Demonstrations and practical exercises for Adobe Photoshop including:

  • setting up the system - 'Preferences'
  • understanding image files - PSD, JPEG, TIFF, TARGA 
  • introduction to the tool box 
  • using the selection tools 
  • identify tool box and palettes 
  • navigate an image 
  • work with colours 
  • use various methods of undo 
  • work with layers 
  • work with channels 
  • create alpha channels 
  • use the history palette 
  • edit images 
  • save alpha channels 
  • automate procedures 
  • work with the text tool
  • Using Filters
  • Working with Layer Masks
