Ideal for everyone working on a music programme, this workshop gives a comprehensive introduction to working with pop music. Sessions cover music terminology, time signatures, bar counting and race reading.

The aims of this course is to understand music terminology, to break down lyrics into bars and beats, to relate bars and beats to the camera shots, and to understand why we need to bar count.

Content on the course will be covered through theory of time signatures and split time, practical lecture room exercises on bar counting and practical exercises to break down lyrics and music.

who it's for:

Anyone who is about to work with popular music, either beginners or as a refresher Gallery production co-ordinators/script supervisors, Assistant Producers, directors and producers who want to understand the Production Co-ordinator's role in music programmes.

By the end of this course delegates will:

  • be able to identify bars and beats
  • understand, and be able to count music items - both scripted and unscripted
  • processes required to break down pop music for scripting
