The aims of this course are to develop gallery directing skills, to communicate effectively over talkback, to acquire good time management skills, and to write studio camera scripts.
By the end of this course delegates will have gained practical experience and confidence in, directing multi-camera studio productions, devising studio camera scripts, communicating effectively over talkback with the studio team and good time management skills.
Delegates are advised to complete a BBC Safety Course or equivalent, such as Risk Management of Productions Part 1 and 2 or Safe Management of Live Events (Part 2) before they attend this course.

- Directors with experience of single camera but little or none of multi-camera shooting
- OB production personnel who direct from a scanner
- Producers or editors who would benefit from a closer understanding of the directing process
- TV studio production personnel who wish to acquire directing skills.
Five studio exercises, including a live current affairs/topical magazine programme, cover:
- Principles of cutting on action
- Scripting a magazine programme
- Interviews - live and recorded
- Unscripted demonstration
- Detailed briefings on preparing camera scripts, running orders and time charts, scheduling rehearsals and pre-recording inserts to live programmes
