All media training courses, from one-day sessions with charity workers to intensive courses for senior editors and ongoing workshops, place firm emphasis on practical training and exercises, using real or professionally simulated examples to build confidence and skill among participants. Role-play based on realistic scenarios is used to hone skills, using authentic situations and extensive background material, and combines with constant peer-review to make the maximum use of time. Video footage, based on the resources of Reuters Television and others, is used where appropriate, and audio-visual presentations are carefully balanced with practical exercises and discussions.
Intensive, one-to-one training is provided in the case of interview techniques for TV and radio, with individual feedback as well as peer-review. Written material is subject to real-time editing, with both individual and peer review in a lively, non intimidating environment. Up-to-date use of press clips, drawing on Reuters own resources, are a feature of many courses, and analysis of clients’ own material such as press releases can be included.
