This course is designed to examine the key roles (writers, directors, producers, and in particular LINE producers/PRODUCTION MANAGERS) and how they work with each other during the pre-production and production periods in film, television and cross platform digital productions. Angus Finney will deliver a range of lectures and workshops that will cover budgets, schedules, call sheets, hiring heads of department and talent, story boarding, director preparation, and how the key relationships between producer, line producer and director/writer operate most effectively.

Producers, TV production managers, film production managers, location managers moving across to line production, assistant directors (film and TV). New digital content producers and executives also encouraged to attend.

 

Further description and outcomes

  1. Understand the distinction between the key roles, in particular producer and line producer
  2. Understand how to read a budget, including top sheet and full budget (film and tv etc).
  3. Learn how a schedule is constructed and how that impacts on the budget
  4. Explore the tensions and issues that normally arise between director and producer/line producer both in pre-production and on the set in principal photography.
  5. Understand how the schedule and script are broken down into call sheets
  6. How heads of departments are selected and contracted
  7. Explore director preparation, in particular with reference to story boarding etc.
  8. Assist directors in understanding their responsibility to work with the team and within budget
  9. Responding to executive controls and completion bond managers
