Andrew Snell is a specialist television production trainer, mentor and coach.  For eight years he has run the BBC’s Writing for Television Course covering the craft skills of writing to picture and basic principles of good storytelling.


He also delivers tailored writing courses to individual units and programme strands throughout the BBC, including Watchdog, The One Show, NHU, Documentaries and the Specialist Factual Department. He is a story and writing consultant to the consumer programme X-Ray, in Wales, which has been specially commended for its use of English on television.  Andrew also delivers the BBC’s Producer Foundation Course and the Storytelling Foundation course. 

For many years he has worked on a number of Channel 4 schemes delivering training in creativity, ideas development, narrative structuring, proposal writing and pitching.

Andrew Snell also provides services as a coach and mentor. He has coached reporters and programme producers in writing succinct but lively voice over scripts and worked as a mentor to programme producers with particular needs.  He has an honours degree in psychology from Oxford University and his coaching also includes working with programme makers with specific disabilities, most commonly dyslexia.

Andrew brings to his coaching and training, experience gained from a career in factual television. For five years he was Editor of BBC 1’s flagship arts programme Omnibus and was a founder producer/director of the South Bank Show. He has spent a number of years in BBC regional News and Current Affairs in Manchester and Newcastle in England and has written and directed Current Affairs for other UK broadcasters. 
His programmes have won awards at the Prix Italia, RTS and BAFTA and at film festivals in New York, Chicago and Marseille.
